Visual checks
PAT testing by a qualified electrician annually, records kept and annual reminder scheduled in calendar
Fixed electrical installation inspection to be carried out every 5 years by a qualified electrician, records kept and 5 year reminder scheduled in calendar
Only trained and qualified electricians allowed to perform electrical work
Ensure all electrical cables are properly routed to minimise the potential for damage both to the cables and to people who may trip over them
Extensions leads only used temporarily when necessary
Provided training on the use of all electrical equipment
Train staff to visually inspect equipment before using it and to report any Hazards immediately
Faulty or damaged equipment should not be used
Never operate machinery with wet/damp hands
Ensure all machines are turned off and isolated the power source before cleaning and maintenance is carried out
Never clean sockets with wet or damp cloths
Keep water away from any electrical appliances
