Notes
Fire Drills are scheduled in the calendar every 6 months
The purpose of the fire drill is to ensure that all staff are trained in the role they would play if a fire should start
A practice fire drill should be carried out at least once in every period of six months simulating conditions in which one or more of the escape routes from the building are obstructed. During these drills the alarm should be made by the member of staff and thereafter the fire routine should be followed as fully as circumstances allow
All members of staff are trained in fire awareness and the evacuation procedures on induction and at regular intervals thereafter
Key members of staff should be trained in the practical use of extinguishers
Details of formal staff training retained online in 'Health & Safety File\Fire training'
A plan of the premises should be made available for Fire brigade use should an incident occur. It should show escape routes and the staircase, extinguishers, gas and electric shut off devices and the location of the fire alarm panel
The plan is available in shop and online in 'Health & Safety File\Fire training'
